Rolex Submariner

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

This Rolex Submariner was given to me for a full service. It transpired the mainspring had also broken. It was approximately 12 years since the last service.

Shiny and working great! Fully serviced. New mainspring and a complimentary pressure test.

The Rolex Submariner is a highly recognizable and iconic watch that has been around since 1953. It was designed specifically for divers and has since become a symbol of luxury and adventure. Here is a brief history of the Rolex Submariner:

  • 1953: Rolex introduces the first Submariner, the reference 6204. It features a water resistance of 100 meters and a rotating bezel with 60-minute graduations.

  • 1954: Rolex improves the Submariner with the reference 6205, increasing water resistance to 200 meters and adding a new bezel design.

  • 1956: The reference 6538 is introduced, which will become the most famous Submariner model due to its association with James Bond in the early movies. It features a larger crown and a black bezel with oversized markers.

  • 1962: The reference 5513 is introduced, which will become the longest-running Submariner model. It features a glossy black dial and Mercedes hands.

  • 1969: The reference 1680 is introduced, which is the first Submariner to feature a date function. It also features a sapphire crystal and a new movement.

  • 1979: The reference 16800 is introduced, which features a higher water resistance of 300 meters and a new case design.

  • 1989: The reference 16610 is introduced, which features a new movement, improved water resistance of 300 meters, and a new bracelet design.

  • 2008: The reference 116610 is introduced, which features a ceramic bezel and a new case design. It also features a new movement with improved accuracy.

The Rolex Submariner has undergone many changes and improvements over the years, but it has remained a popular and iconic watch. Its timeless design and impressive features continue to attract divers, adventurers, and watch enthusiasts around the world.
